VEN PONGAL

Ven pongal is our traditional recipe. It tastes delicious. Taste of pongal is hidden in "tadka".. Mashed dal & rice with ghee tempering gives awesome taste....

INGREDIENTS :

  1. Raw rice - 1/2 cup
  2. Moong dal - 1/2 cup
  3. Milk- 1/2 cup
  4. Water - 2 &1/2 cups
  5. Salt - to taste
TO TEMPER :
  1. Ghee - 2 tbl spn
  2. Pepper - 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  4. Ginger - 1 inch
  5. Green chilli - 2 pcs
  6. Cashew nuts - 5 - 10

RECIPE :

Take rice and dal , wash it
Measure rice , dal , milk& water in same measuring cup
 
Mine is 200 ml cup
In a pressure pan add washed dal & rice
Add milk 
Add water & salt
Pressure cook this for 5 - 6 whistles in medium flame
After 20 mins open & mash it lightly
It should be in little mushy consistency
Now temper all the ingredients given under "to temper"
Add temperings to pongal
 
Now pongal done
Serve hot with sambar , chutney... YUMMMMM
