KUMBAKONAM KADAPPA

INGREDIENTS :
- Onion- 1 largely sliced
- Potato - 1 chopped
- Green chilly - 3 pc
- Curry leaves - 2 springs
- Garlic - 3 pods
- Moong dal - 3 tbl spoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt - to taste
FOR GRINDING :
- Coconut (grated) - 2 tbl spoon
- Fried gram / pottu kadalai - 1 tbl spoon
- green chilly - 1
- Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
- kasa kasa - 1/4 tsp (optional)
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
FOR TEMPERING :
- Oil - 2 tbl spoon
- Cinnamon - 1 small inch pc
- Cloves - 3 pc
- Bay leaf - 1
- Black stone flower
RECIPE :
Take all the ingredients
Soak moong dal for 20mins
Slice onions , chop potato & slit green chillies
Grind the ingredients as smooth paste, given under "for grinding"
Take a pressure cooker
Heat a pan add oil
Add the tempering items , add curry leaves
Now add garlic & chillies
After a minute add onions saute well till onion turns translucent
Add chopped potatoes
Saute for 2 mins
Add soaked moong dal
Add turmeric powder
Now add grounded paste
Add 2 cups of water
Add salt
Now close the lid & pressure cook for 4 - 5 whistles in medium flame
Add coriander leaves
Serve hot with idli / dosa
