KUMBAKONAM KADAPPA

 Kadappa is a popular dish of kumbakonam , that's y it's called as kumbakonam kadappa...  It is usually served with idli & dosa. It is an alternative for sambar ...... Let us see...


INGREDIENTS :

  1. Onion- 1 largely sliced
  2. Potato - 1 chopped
  3. Green chilly - 3 pc
  4. Curry leaves - 2 springs
  5. Garlic - 3 pods
  6. Moong dal - 3 tbl spoon
  7. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  8. Salt - to taste

FOR GRINDING :

  1. Coconut (grated) - 2 tbl spoon
  2. Fried gram / pottu kadalai - 1 tbl spoon
  3. green chilly - 1
  4. Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
  5. kasa kasa - 1/4 tsp (optional)
  6. Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp

FOR TEMPERING :

  1. Oil - 2 tbl spoon
  2. Cinnamon - 1 small inch pc
  3. Cloves - 3 pc
  4. Bay leaf - 1
  5. Black stone flower

RECIPE :

Take all the ingredients 
Soak moong dal for 20mins

Slice onions , chop potato & slit green chillies

Grind the ingredients as smooth paste, given under "for grinding"

Take a pressure cooker
Heat a pan add oil
Add the tempering items  , add curry leaves

Now add garlic & chillies

After a minute add onions  saute well till onion turns translucent


Add chopped potatoes 



Saute for 2 mins
Add soaked moong dal
Add turmeric powder

Now add grounded paste 

Add 2 cups of water

Add salt
Now close the lid & pressure cook for 4  - 5 whistles in medium flame

Add coriander leaves

Serve hot with idli / dosa
